Data Size Converter
Convert between different units of digital storage including bytes, kilobytes, megabytes, gigabytes, and more.
How to use this tool:
- Enter a value in any of the input fields
- The tool will automatically convert to all other data size units
- Use decimal units (KB, MB, GB, TB) for standard measurements
- Use binary units (KiB, MiB, GiB, TiB) for computer memory measurements
- Click the Reset All Values button to start over
- Scroll down to learn about different data size units and their relationships

About Data Size Units
Decimal System (Base 10):
- Byte (B): Basic unit of digital information (8 bits)
- Kilobyte (KB): 1,000 bytes
- Megabyte (MB): 1,000 kilobytes
- Gigabyte (GB): 1,000 megabytes
- Terabyte (TB): 1,000 gigabytes
Binary System (Base 2):
- Bit (b): Smallest unit of data (0 or 1)
- Kibibyte (KiB): 1,024 bytes
- Mebibyte (MiB): 1,024 kibibytes
- Gibibyte (GiB): 1,024 mebibytes
- Tebibyte (TiB): 1,024 gibibytes
There are two systems for measuring digital information: the decimal system (used by hard drive manufacturers) and the binary system (used by operating systems). This can lead to differences in reported storage capacity.
Common Conversions:
- 1 Byte = 8 Bits
- 1 Kilobyte (KB) = 1,000 Bytes
- 1 Kibibyte (KiB) = 1,024 Bytes
- 1 Megabyte (MB) = 1,000 Kilobytes
- 1 Mebibyte (MiB) = 1,024 Kibibytes
